Fall 2007 Midwest Topology Seminar

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

October 13 2007

The Midwest Topology Conference for the Fall of 2007 will take place at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on Saturday October 13, 2007.

The schedule of talks for the conference is

10:00 Nathan Dunfield (UIUC) Actions of mapping class groups on representation varieties of finite groups
11:30 Michael Mandell (Indiana University) K-theory and abstract homotopy theory
2:30 Michael Ching (Johns Hopkins University) An approach to the Goodwillie-Taylor tower of algebraic K-theory
4:00 David Gepner (University of Sheffield) On the Structure of the Motivic Spectra Representing Algebraic Cobordism and Algebraic K-Theory

All talks will be held in Room 245 Altgeld Hall.

Altgeld Hall is the main building of the math department; for those of you who want to use a mapping program the address is 1409 W. Green St. in Urbana. You can see a map at http://www.math.uiuc.edu/Maps/, where there is also a link to the campus's map site.

For those of you coming by car, there is some on-street parking, and the City of Champaign maintains a pay lot on Green St. between 6th St and 5th St. (about two blocks west of the intersection of Wright and Green shown on the map http://www.math.uiuc.edu/Maps/)

For those of you coming by train or bus, the bus schedule is available at http://www.cumtd.com/. Both the Red (20) and Green (50) buses go from the train/bus station (Illinois Terminal) to the Illini Union, right next to Altgeld Hall.

This information and any updates will be available at http://www.math.uiuc.edu/~mando/midwest07.

The National Science Foundation has made some funds available to the Midwest Topology Seminar, particularly to support participation by early-career mathematicians. We have already given promises of support, but in case there are cancellations or unused funds remain, you may wish to contact Matthew Ando <mando@math.uiuc.edu>.
